  • Rural Agricultural Value Chain Financing

    This video documents the experiences of farmers who benefited from a rural agriculture value chain financing model which was piloted by St. Thomas/First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union Limited. The video is part of a larger toolkit which explains the transformative role which value chain financing can play in the development of rural agriculture. The toolkit is a product of the Extending Financial Services Directly to Rural Jamaican Farmers (Direct2Client) Project which was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank-Multilateral Investment Fund.

  • Agricultural Value Chain Financing - A Toolkit For Jamaica and the English-speaking Caribbean

    This Toolkit documents the development of a rural agriculture value chain financing model piloted by St. Thomas/First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union Limited and the lessons learnt in four supply value chains. The Toolkit is intended to explain the concept of extending financial services to Jamaican farmers and the transformative role which value chain financing can play in the development of rural agriculture.   • Building Up Business: Microenterprise Demand for Credit in the Caribbean

    This report, commissioned and funded by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) through the Caribbean Microfinance Capacity-Building Program II (CARI BCAP II ), explores the nature of demand for microfinance in four Caribbean countries—Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, and Suriname—using a quantitative market survey complemented by qualitative interviews with microentrepreneurs as well as formal and informal providers of financial services to low income segments.

    In 2011 MIF and Compete Caribbean commissioned a study entitled Financial Regulation in the English-speaking Caribbean: Is it Helping or Hindering Microfinance? The study sought to determine how the regulatory framework affects the growth of microfinance in the region in order to: a) give practitioners a better understanding of the issues and the context in which they are working and b) provide information so they can effectively lobby for regulations beneficial to the sector.
